What is the staff ratio to campers?
There is one staff member for every three campers. Staff rooms are allocated in boarding houses so that we can ensure 24 hour care and senior staff are always present on site.
What happens if my child needs medical attention?
Qualified First Aiders are on site at all times and we are registered with a Doctor just three minutes’ drive away. The camp is also situated twenty minutes away from Leeds General Infirmary.
What is your visitation policy?
You are welcome to visit your child any time you wish. We ask that you arrange this ahead of time so that we can make sure your child’s group is not off site on an excursion.
Will I be allowed to speak to my child on the phone?
Yes, we have two phone nights a week in the evenings. You also have the option of calling to speak to a group leader to discuss your child’s progress.
What if my child gets homesick?
It is natural to miss home, especially if children have not been away from the home for long before. Therefore, our staff are fully trained to deal with any homesickness and we endeavour to make all campers feel comfortable, make friends and settle in. In the unlikely event that homesickness persists, we will contact you to work with you in deciding the best course of action.
I don’t want to send my child to a ‘boot camp’
The philosophy of our programme is to promote positive experiences of activity and healthy eating so that children will develop healthy lifestyle habits for the future. We believe that building self-esteem and confidence is vital in changing lives, so we create opportunities to have fun through physical activity. While we stick to a routine, it is flexible with one of the fundamental aims being enjoyment. This is why we would describe our programme as a ‘holiday camp’, certainly not a ‘boot camp’.
What if my child has special dietary requirements?
We aim to accommodate all dietary requirements and we have been able to cater for all requests on previous camps. Please make sure that we are notified in the relevant section on the application form so that we can make any necessary preparations.
What if my child needs toiletries/supplies while he/she is at camp?
If your child needs extra supplies, they can tell you on a phone night or a member of staff will contact you directly. You can post items to camp, or swifter alternative arrangements can be made.
What about laundry, pillows and bedding?
Pillows and bedding are provided and are changed regularly. There is a weekly laundry service, for which we ask campers to bring a laundry bag and label all clothes.
Is there any funding available?
We have had a number of children funded by their health authority, GP, Social Services or charities. There does, however, tend to be differences between regions in the availability of financial support. Therefore, we would suggest you speak to your GP and/or school for advice. Please contact us if we can be of assistance to you in obtaining financial support.
