The programme is FREE for overweight and obese kids due to the kind support of Leeds Primary Care Trust.

Professor Gately said "We are delighted to recieve support to run this successful weight loss programme on our home turf. The Carnegie Clubs programme which was highlighted as a model of good practice in the recent Government Foresight Reports now appears to be getting the recognition it deserves. We are especially delighted to recieve support from the Leeds Primary Care Trust so that we can offer the programme for free. We know this will make a big difference to take up. We call on all groups, parents, family friends, education and health care professionals to sensitively make those in need aware of this life changing programme."

"Previously, parents, children and other family members have lost weight through their involvment, we look forward to welcoming families from across Leeds"

First 2008 Leeds Club Launch

Saturday 19th January 2008 saw the successful delivery of the first Leeds Carnegie Club programme supported by Leeds PCT. We had a boys-rc.jpggreat turnout from kids and parents and all enjoyed their first day.

The first activity was team building and both kids and parents had fun, learnt some new skills and made some friends. This was followed by an excellent first lifestyle session. The second physical activity was the gold rush, a treasure hunt around the amazing Headingley Campus at Leeds Met..

We even had some great performances on BBC Look North News tonight, some new stars in the making we think!!

Well done to all that attended we are looking forward to the second week with all families making an impressive start to their weight loss journey.

Weighing In

The 2005 documentary Weighing In followed campers extraordinary journey through a truly life changing experience. The 10 part documentary showed the challenges and triumphs faced by those children attending our eight week residential weight loss camp.

The series dispels the typical “Fat Camp” myth as it shows the excitement and enjoyment campers have engaging in new activities and meeting new friends.

The programme showed how our eight week lifestyles education programme arms children with the skills and tools they need to manage their own weight effectively. Whilst also documenting the children experiencing a whole range of physical and social activities.

Real Story With Fiona Bruce

Real story followed a young boys struggle with weight loss as he considers surgery as a drastic measure to manage his weight.

The documentary highlights our work within local communities to provide appropriate services to help children and families manage their weight effectively.

The documentary looks at the risks involved in such a drastic measure to loose weight and questions why services such as our Carnegie Clubs programme are not available across the country.
